Machakos County First lady Lilian Ng'ang'a borrowed a leaf from Kenya's First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and organized a party for children at Machakos People's Park.
In a press release sent to newsrooms on Friday, December 20, Lilian announced that she had celebrated an early Christmas with over 1,000 kids from children's homes in Machakos County.
"This program is organized by her team of three officials namely Dominic Musembi who is the county director in charge is special programmes, Valentine Musyoka, the director of social welfare and civic empowerment and Mary Mwangi who is the assistant director of special programmes and also PA to the first lady," the statement read.
The previous day, President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta invited youngsters from children's homes around the country to celebrate Christmas at State House.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta today hosted a party for State House staff children at State House, Nairobi. Children from various children's homes also attended this year's party," PSCU announced on December 19.
Lilian announced that the intiative played a big role in the lives of the children, as they got a chance to not only have a day of celebration, but also to have one on one interactions and a learning chance that could benefit them in future.
Ms Ng'ang'a was also accompanied by Chief Officer in charge of Social Welfare and Civic Empowerment Zuhura Khamisi.
Alfred Mutua, who never made it to the event, however expressed his support for the initiative.
County Director of Special Programmes Dominic Musembi intimated that apart from the initiative with the children, Lilian spends time with the elderly and visits girls' secondary schools to mentor and support students while providing for their hygiene needs at the county's cost.
"The first lady of Machakos County has a big heart for the needy children and it is her passion and many times she uses her own resources to ensure the children are happy and healthy always," Musembi stated.
