An expectant woman developed contractions at Embakasi Bus Terminus along Accra Road, Nairobi on Saturday evening, December 21, 2019.
The woman, who was on her way to Pumwani Maternity Hospital, delivered with help from Embassava Sacco operators.
“I just saw a woman writhing in pain before she went down on her knees while her husband, who was carrying a bag, tried to help her to her feet.
"Just then she made a loud scream and the baby came out, luckily enough I was right on time to hold the baby’s head as she came out,” Joseph Anari, one of the matatu crew members told Nairobi News.
The publication noted that the members of the Embassava crew offered their jackets, which were used to wrap the baby.
On the other hand, another woman in the crowd was said to have offered her hairband, which was used to tie the baby's umbilical cord.
She was then rushed to the Pumwani Maternity Hospital.
The father of the baby confirmed that both his wife and the newly born were in a stable condition.
“I left Ruiru hoping to have my wife admitted at Pumwani Maternity Hospital but the baby came on our way to the terminus," the baby's father stated.
He added that he was working on getting them discharged from the hospital.
