Waititu Defends Wife in Fresh Multi-Million Accusation

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu on Sunday, December 22, spoke to Kenyans.co.ke after reports by Daily Nation that his wife and daughters were awarded tenders worth Ksh18 million by the Government of Kiambu.

Daily Nation published that Kiambu County First Lady Susan Wangari Ndung'u, and her two daughters, Monica Njeri Ndung’u and Diana Wangoko Ndung’uwere, were awarded tenders worth Ksh18,871,398 between October 2017 and March 2019.

The companies in question are; Suwanga Ltd, Modiba Ltd, Beedee Management Services Ltd, Connex Logistics Ltd, and Bins Management Services Ltd.

Further, the publication reported that two of the companies were registered when the governor was elected into office, while one of the companies was registered two months before his election.

Waititu explained that his wife and daughters are adults, who are free to do business with whomever they please.

"There's nowhere I influenced the tendering and those are people who have their own plans and they have been doing businesses for a long time.

"For example, my wife has never been employed and she has been doing her own businesses even before I became a governor," Waititu told our newsdesk.

The governor, who was impeached by the County Assembly of Kiambu on Thursday, December 19, maintained that there was no quorum to impeach him.

He lamented over the entire process, stating that it was conducted under controversial terms.

"They did not meet the threshold. It is all fixed and I will not let them have their way. If you saw what was happening, you understand that it is pure lies.

"It was orchestrated by my deputy James Nyoro and my opponents and I will face them in court," Waititu affirmed.
