Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua is in mourning after his mother, Martha Kirigo Gachagua, died on Monday, December 23 in Nyeri County.
In a Facebook post, Rigathi mourned his mother as a strong force to reckon with, having brought up great leaders in a noble manner.
"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
"Our mother, Martha Kirigo Gachagua, went to be with the Lord yesternight,” wrote Rigathi.
Rigathi indicated that the family had lost an important member who had seen them get to great heights in life.
“Though it is difficult for us, we celebrate the precious life that we spent together with her.
"Her 89 years in this world were truly a great blessing and she was the greatest mother. May our mother rest in eternal peace," he mourned.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga also eulogised Rigathi's mother lauding her as an important icon in society.
“I join Rigathi Gachagua, the entire Gachagua family, relatives, friends and the people of Mathira in mourning their dear mum, Martha Kirigo Gachagua, who has passed this morning after a 10 year battle with illness bravely borne.
“Martha has been a kingpin in this family that gave Nyeri it's first governor, the late Nderitu Gachagua and also given Mathira two MPs,” wrote Governor Kahiga.
Kahiga further indicated that the county would support the family.
“We pray that God gives the family His grace and fortitude during this sad time. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” added Kahiga.
The late Governor Gachagua passed on in February 2017 at a hospital in London, UK after succumbing to pancreatic cancer.
The late Martha Kirigo was the wife of the late Nahashon Gachagua Reriani.
