MP Who Ousted His Former Teacher From Seat

Kajiado West Member of Parliament George Sunkuyia is a man remembered for setting a precedent after winning against his former primary school teacher Moses ole Sakuda in the August 2017 General Election.

In an article by Daily Nation on August 2017, Sunkuyia acknowledged that Sakuda was his teacher and had taken part in his development as a seasoned politician.

"It should also be remembered that Sakuda was my teacher in primary school and has been an inspiration in my political journey.

"Now that we have crossed that bridge, I am confident that I will serve the people of Kajiado West and that we shall scale greater heights of development," remarked Sunkuyia.

After the defeat, Sakuda promised to support Sunkuyia in his journey as a young parliamentarian.

"I now realize that Kajiado West will have a new MP in George Sunkuyia.

"I have passed the leadership baton to my former pupil as I prepare for more challenging responsibilities. Success is not success without a successor," added Sakuda.

Before clinching the seat, Sunkuyia served as a Member of County Assembly MCA representing Keekonyokie Ward.

The young parliamentarian, whose star was rising fast, also served as the deputy speaker in Kajiado County Assembly.

Sakuda’s woes started after he lost to Sankuya in the Jubilee Party primaries and resorted to vying for the position as an independent candidate.
