Passengers in Agony After NTSA Cracks Whip on Rogue Motorists

Commuters travelling along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway were left stranded on Tuesday, December 24 after a crackdown by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

Nairobi News reported that 58 unroadworthy vehicles were impounded during the operation.

"There are close to 100 vehicles that are yet to be checked before they can check my vehicle. The process is taking so much time," complained Peter Mutuma, a matatu driver.

"It is good that the authority is checking for unroadworthy vehicles so as to minimise the number of road accidents during the festive season," Eric Kinoti another driver stated.

Some of the passengers complained that the inspection took too much time.

"Our journey begun at 8am from Nairobi at Machakos Bus Terminus, where I paid my fare. Vehicles are being impounded yet I am accompanied by my children, they have not eaten since morning, what is my right as a citizen in this country?" Samuel Mitau, a passenger questioned.

"If the inspections were done on a daily basis, then, we would not be in this predicament," Ali Nuno weighed in.

On his part, Kiambu County Police Commander Ali Nuno informed that the police had impounded 58 vehicles, including those that had faulty safety belts and those operating on unauthorized routes.

"We are here for Kenyans and we shall emphasise on their safety and security and we are asking the general public to cooperate with us," he told the media.

Nuno further warned those who would not comply with the police, citing that they would be arrested and taken to a court of law.
