Police Sets 2 Sisters on Fire in Botched Love Affair

A police officer is under custody after he was arrested for dousing two sisters with petrol before setting them on fire in a botched love affair.

The Standard on Monday, December 30, was first to report that the Saka Achimba, an officer attached to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit in Nakuru was being held at Nakuru's Central Police Station.

Phanice Nyabaro, 27, and her sister Ruth Nyabaro, 17, are recuperating at the Rift Valley General Hospital, and are under stable conditions, according to a report by Joseph Keriyo, the hospital's head of clinic service

The elder sister sustained 18 per cent burns while her sibling sustained eight per cent burns after the incident.

According to Ruth, Achimba had threatened Phanice after the two broke up several weeks ago.

She alleged that the officer visited Phanice's shop on Saturday, December 28, at 6: 30 pm demanding to be informed on her whereabouts.

He then reportedly grabbed Phanice's phone and left the shop threatening to kill her.

Achimba allegedly returned at 8 pm with a jerrycan of petrol, shut the shop's doors behind him and doused the sisters with petrol before setting them on fire.

Nakuru Town East Deputy Commander Phanton Analo confirmed the incident.

"A probe was launched when the crime was reported (at Bondeni Police Station). The officer is being interrogated," Analo stated.
