A former head of county communications in Garissa has sued the county administration for what he alleges to be salary arrears amounting to Ksh1.7 million accrued over the course of two years since September 1, 2017.
In a report published by the Kenya News Agency, a lawsuit was filed at the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nairobi listing the County Government of Garissa and the payroll manager as the 2nd and 3rd respondents on November 8, 2019.
The communication official identified as Yusuf Korrow sued the administration for removing him from the payroll and has claimed to have still continued to work for the county since September 2017 without pay.
Korrow is reported to have worked in the former Governor Nathif Jama's administration as a Deputy Director for Information.
Although he is said to have raised the alarm upon realising that he had been removed from the payroll without a chance to defend himself, no action was taken on his plight.
The former communication director alleged that the administration was in violation of his rights to fair labour practice and subjected him to what he termed social and economic humiliation.
This came despite efforts from the County Public Service Board who had written to the payroll manager ordering Yusuf's reinstatement, a directive the manager did not oblige.
Yusuf through Bizimana Advocates has made the following demands; The County Public Service Board, County Government payroll manager to have him reinstated back, the payment of salary arrears from September 1, 2017, to date, damages of unlawfully withholding his salary amounting to Ksh1,673,124, and compensation for breach of employment contract.
