Matiang'i Lands Major Booster Ahead of 2022 Elections

For Interior CS Fred Matiang'i. it is a question of if he would vie for any political seat in 2022, either at the gubernatorial level or presidency.

The powerful CS, loyal to President Uhuru Kenyatta, is revered and loathed in equal measure. Serving under the head of state who bestowed authority on him, in what instigated bitter rivalry between him and DP Ruto allies, has been on the spotlight over allegedly being groomed by Kenyatta to succeed him in 2022.

The Standard on Tuesday, December 31, was first to report that Matiang'i not only enjoyed national support but was also highly respected in his Gusii backyard and was endorsed as the region's kingpin on Monday, December 30 by Kitutu Chache South MP, Richard Onyonka.

Speaking at his Mosocho home, Onyonka stated that the community had agreed to rally behind Matiang'i who would represent them at the national political sphere.

"I would like to warn my fellow legislators from Gusiiland fighting Matiang'i to beware that they risk sinking into political oblivion.

"The CS enjoys the support of the entire community, which has almost two million voters," Onyonka argued.

He went on to proclaim that Matiang'i enjoyed the support of the region leaders ranging from MCAs to Governors across Kisii and Nyamira and that he had been polished through his public service roles.

DP Ruto has also made inroads in Gusii land and enjoys varying support in the region.

His staunch ally, South Mugirango MP, Sylvanus Osoro has numerously reiterated that the DP will be president in 2020.
