Troubled Mt Kenya TV received another blow after senior political reporter, Mwaura wa Ndung’u, quit the station on Saturday, January 4, 2020.
Through a post on Facebook, the reporter confirmed his exit from the station associated with Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici.
“It has taken years of dedication, passion and consistency on different tv screens-Kameme TV and Mt Kenya TV.
“To those who contributed to my growth, I say thank you. However, it's time to call it quits for private reasons,” wrote Mwaura.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a source seeking anonymity indicated the continued struggle facing Slopes Media Company which owns Mt Kenya TV and Iganjo FM.
“The company is suffering due to incompetent management. The people meant to manage the operations at the two stations have failed to undertake their respective roles as expected,” remarked the source.
Further, failure to promptly pay salaries has fuelled the suffering being experienced at the station.
“In December, employees only received salaries of about Ksh5,000 each, compared to higher salaries that read in their contracts.
“The employees only received salaries in full for two months from when they joined the company. Since then, it has been a hustle as the management fails to pay up every consecutive month,” added the source.
The resignation by the reporter only adds up to the high turnover that has faced the station that was expected to rival Royal Media’s Inooro TV and Mediamax station, Kameme TV.
Others who have resigned include former Head of TV Macharia Gachuru, Head of Radio Kihara Gathua, news anchor Liz Gathogo, presenters Agnes Nonsinzi and Kanyi Munene.
Prior to its grand entry to the media industry in September 2018, the media company poached big names from Kameme TV, Inooro TV and KBC.
Some of the media personalities who had moved to the station included Ephraim Antony Mugo, Jeff Munga Waithera, Kihara wa Gathua, and Muhia wa Maina.
Others include Maina Wairegi, Monicah Kagoni, Eric Ngathu and KBC’s Jacob Kioria.
