NTV's Amina Opens Up on Getting Scammed

Many Kenyans think they cannot be conned until they are actually duped. Quite a number of citizens have kept to themselves dark tales of how they fell victim to con artists who masqueraded as either friends, business partners, or service vendors.

On Friday, January 3, in an episode of NTV's The Trend, show host Amina Rabar opened up on how she was cheated out of money by someone she had hired for a job.

Her confession was sparked by a discussion on the show of how city lawyer, Steve Ogolla, was allegedly conned Ksh 500,000 by a Facebook lover.

Amina revealed that she was duped by a person whom she thought was reputable and asked him to build a playground for her son.

"I was conned by somebody who came to build a playground for my son. He had built like 22 houses so I was like 'how can I doubt him?'," Amina intimated.

Having never been conned, the radio queen trusted the praises she had heard of the artisan and advanced him the money but he disappeared.

Years later, the NTV show host could still not believe that she was actually deceived, a thing she had told herself would never happen.

Though she was cheated out of tens of thousands, Amina revealed that the pain she felt was as if she had lost tens of millions of shillings.

"Till today, it has been three and a half years, I still do not believe that he conned me," Amina stated.

"It bothered me, and it was just Ksh35,000. It felt like he had conned me of Ksh 25,000,000," she added.

Her efforts to seek justice from the authorities and friends in tracing the money were not fruitful.

"I went to the cops, I went to everyone. There's no one I did not go to, maybe Kinoti. But still, I did not get help," Amina revealed.
