President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, January 6, sent his condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of Mama Martha Kirigo Gachagua.
In a statement released by the President's Strategic Communications Unit (PSCU), President Kenyatta stated that he had been saddened by the passing of Mama Martha, the mother of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua and the late Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua.
“Mama Kirigo was a gracious and courageous woman who raised a successful family and mentored many in her community," the President eulogized.
Kenyatta also described the late matriarch as a strong pillar in her community and praised her for the roles she played in mentoring both the family and the community.
“Mama Kirigo has been a role model as a successful farmer and businesswoman whose legacy will continue to be a reference point for many generations to come.
"Certainly we can see the fruits of her keen parenting through her children who are prominent leaders of our great nation,” the president stated.
In a separate message, President Kenyatta condoled the family of Laikipia politician, the late Christopher Maitho Murigu, a political stalwart who plied his trade in Kanu and Uhuru's TNA.
“Maitho was an amiable person whose charm and charisma endeared him to many Kenyans especially those in politics.
It is due to his commitment and devotion to empowering the community that he was elected and served successfully as Laikipia KANU chairman and later as TNA party leader,” he stated.
Maitho died on January 3 and is set to be buried on January 8, 2020.
President Kenyatta prayed for both families to find strength in these hard times.
