Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Monday, January 6, 2020, nominated Anne Kananu Mwenda for the role of Nairobi Deputy Governor.
The lowkey individual has been steadily making her way up the ladder having once served as a switchboard operator at the Kenya College of Communications Technology (now Multimedia University) - responsible for assisting callers by answering the line and connecting the caller to the correct person or department.
Kananu holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminology and Security Management with a major in Forensic and Criminal Investigation from the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology undertaken in 2016.
She also has a Diploma in Criminology and Security Management from St. Paul's University undertaken in 2013.
Sonko's nominee for the Nairobi deputy governor position is well trained in disaster management and security and has also undergone Active Shooter and Hostage training.
Having served at Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) as a Security Supervisor for 13 years, she applied for the role of the Chief Officer Disaster Management in Nairobi county, a role she has held since April 2018.
Prior to her latest nomination, she was also the acting chief officer for water.
She is the widow to the late Philip Njiru Muthathai who died in a tragic road accident at Devki area of Athi River on January 13, 2019.
The late Njiru served as an enforcement officer at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
