Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has called upon Mount Kenya residents to reason together and engage better in terms of forging the way forward.
In a video he posted he shared on Facebook, Kabogo urged the region to desist from divisive politics that has turned members of the community against each other and instead focus on development.
"I want to tell the Kikuyu community, let us think a little bit. Think before you talk. Why are there no politics in other regions? Brother is turning against brother," Kabogo noted.
"We need to be asking ourselves where we are heading to, we need to think of how to safeguard our future. We need to think fast because there is no time," he added.
In his address, Kabogo advised members of his community to consider constitutional amendments as a first in the step towards bettering the region and the country as a whole, regardless of who was the president.
Kabogo stated that the region's residents needed to align their visions.
"Instead of running everywhere without direction, this is the time to think of what constitutional amendments can be of benefits later for us and the country, no matter who becomes the president in this country," Kabogo urged.
Taking note of the region's enormous population, the former Kiambu governor urged them to mobilise their numbers in a push for amendments that would strike a balance in the country.
"We must use our numbers positively," Kabogo stated.
"An MP in Ruiru has got over 200,000 voters while an MP in Ijara only needs 20,000 voters. How can we make amendments to bring a balance?" he posed.
Kabogo's statement comes amidst rifts in the region, with leaders from the community launching scathing attacks at each other.
Most recent, Kandara MP Alice Wahome caused a political storm on January 3, when she accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of derailing the country's economy.
Her criticism attracted hostility from both camps of the political factions that have emerged within the Jubilee Party.
