Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has launched an attack on the Building Bridges Initiatives, citing incompetence in the report.
The Elgeyo Marakwet senator took to social media to critique why the energy that accompanied the launch of the BBI report at Bomas of Kenya on November 27, 2019, could not translate into granting justice to controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna.
According to Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna, the barrister was categorized as an unruly passenger on March 18, 2018, in line with Annex 17 of the International Civil Authority Organisation standards.
Murkomen alleged that the ongoing Miguna saga had proved to Kenyans that the BBI could not guarantee justice to Miguna, or at least compel adherence to court orders.
"Despite the pomp and the razzmatazz that accompanied the launch of BBI in Bomas of Kenya, it’s now clear that BBI itself cannot even save one citizen in the name of Miguna Miguna, neither can it compel the obedience of court orders," Murkomen faulted.
"If it can’t save one man, how will it save 47 million Kenyans?" he posed.
Echoing a ruling by Justice Weldon Korir, Murkomen stated that the law was above every Kenyan and needed to be followed.
On Monday, January 6, Justice Korir ordered the government to ensure Miguna's safe entry into the country, as reported by Citizen Digital.
The High Court on Wednesday, January 8 directed the government to file a response towards a supposed red alert advisory against the self-designated National Revolutionary Movement (NRM) leader.
"The courts have issued orders and they are superior to my opinions and must be obeyed," Murkomen reiterated.
