ODM Clarifies Reports of Planned Mega Event

ODM Party has denounced a poster doing rounds online about a rally to be held at Bukungu Stadium on January 18.

The falsified poster claimed that the ODM gathering was convened by Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli.

Taking to Twitter, the opposition party clarified that the planned event was organised by the Building Bridges Initiative taskforce.

"ODM has the capacity to call for its own rally to talk about anything and people will come in large numbers.

"The Bukhungu meeting has been organized by the team responsible for the BBI and we shall be there as local leaders to talk about what we want addressed," the party explained.

The fake poster purported Oparanya as the Luhya community 'kingpin' and Atwoli as the event's chief guest.

"Fake people come up with fake things to justify their fake ideology...In the end, they will be defeated," ODM added.

On Wednesday, January 8, Capital FM News reported that 12 legislators from Western Kenya held a press conference in which they vowed to boycott the said convention.

Led by Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi, the lawmakers revealed that they had not been consulted regarding the meeting and its agenda was unclear to them.

“As legislators from Western Kenya, we want to state clearly that we don’t know anything about this proposed meeting. We do not know where it was mooted and who the organizers are," Bunyasi was quoted by the publication.

"Basic courtesy and common decency demands that if anyone is organizing a leaders’ meeting in any part of the country, he/she should involve the area leaders,” he argued.
