Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria was on Saturday, January 11, at 6:50 pm, released from Kilimani Police Station.
The MP was facing assault charges after Kiambu activist, Joyce Wanja, accused him of battering her after an interview with Royal Media's Inooro TV.
According to media reports, he was released on a Ksh 20, 000 cash bail instead of Ksh 50,000 which the court had granted.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke earlier, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichunghwa stated that his Gatundu counterpart had gone on a hunger strike and was apprehensive about his security.
"They wanted to move him at night, where to, we do not know so we have people who are spending the night there.
"He does not trust food that they are giving him as they could poison him, hence, he is on hunger strike until they release him or take him to court," he told our news desk.
In a video that circulated widely on Friday, January 10, Wanja accused the Gatundu South MP of battering her.
"I was assaulted by Kuria after the show after I told him that his utterances during a past music show at Ruiru were demeaning to women.
"I have been going to the police to write statements concerning the same but I have never gotten justice," remarked Wanja.
The activist further alleged that she was injured during the scuffle as Kuria hit her in the presence of four others during the interview.
