Musalia Mudavadi Renews War With Raila

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya's Moses Wetangula have taken issue with ODM leader Raila Odinga over the popularization of the BBI report.

Reports from the Daily Nation on Sunday, January 12, indicate that the two leaders expressed their reservations in Vihiga County at the burial of Jane Bukutsa, the daughter in law of the late James Otiende, a former education minister.

Mudavadi, while making it clear that he was not opposed to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, took issue with how Odinga was popularizing it.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta urged Kenyans to read the report and make a decision. I don't think his stand has changed," he stated.

Mudavadi was talking in allusion to Odinga's decision to embark on regional meetings to solicit public views on the Building Bridges Initiative report.

"We wonder what views can be gathered from leaders and the public, who have not seen or read the report. The disgrace of the Kisii rally is a case study on how not to manage serious issues that concern constitutional changes," Mudavadi was quoted.

He also took issue with what he called the decision not involve him and Wetangula in the BBI process after reports indicated that the BBI task force's mandate would be extended with a view to getting more views from the public.

"We are not against BBI. But we expected that after the launch of the report at Bomas in November 2019, we were to be briefed by the two BBI principals as national party leaders together with others," he was quoted.

Mudavadi lamented that the regional meetings by the ODM leader were held with a partisan and pre-meditated view in mind, with a view to making the report work in his favour.

Odinga conducted the first meeting to popularize the BBI report in Kisii county on January 10, 2020, where he was accompanied by Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and a host of other leaders.

The next popularization meeting is set to be held on January 18, at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega county.
