President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday, January 12, shared a message of condolence following the death of Raphael Githiga Mwai, one of the country's foremost policy and corporate governance experts.
Mwai is one of the chief architects behind Kenya's Vision 2030 development blueprint, having chaired the Technical Committee that drafted it while serving on the National Economic and Social Council (NESC) between 2004 and 2010.
Uhuru described Mwai as a patriot, crediting him with influencing various executives currently in charge of state corporations.
"Mwai made significant contribution that shaped the corporate governance sector in the country. He influenced many Kenyans especially those currently holding senior positions in our state corporations.
"We are deeply saddened by his departure and we pray that the Almighty God comforts the family, relatives and friends at this very difficult moment," the President noted.
The Vision 2030 blueprint, considered one of former President Mwai Kibaki's enduring legacies, is used to guide resource allocation and development programs in line with the country's long-term aspirations.
Uhuru called on Kenyans to honor Mwai's legacy by ensuring high standards were adhered to in the management of both public and private enterprises.
At the time of his passing on January 7, Mwai was the Founder Chairman and Policy and Governance Advisor with Public Private Development Consultants Ltd (PPD).
His long, storied career saw him work at the highest levels of several professional bodies in Kenya and beyond.
They include the Institute of Public Secretaries of Kenya where he was the founder chairman, the Kenya Institute of Management, the Kenya Private Sector Association, the Federation of Kenya Employers and the Association of Professional Associations of East Africa (APSEA).
Mwai's funeral will take place on Thursday, January 16, at an unconfirmed location with meetings to coordinate arrangements happening at the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi.
His burial is scheduled for Friday, January 17 at his farm in Mweiga, Nyeri County.
