Uhuru Sneaks Into Mombasa for Secretive Meetings With Matiang'i & Kinoti

President Uhuru Kenyatta has, for the last two weeks, been holed up in Mombasa where he has been reportedly summoning top government officials for secret meetings on varied dates.

According to a report by The Standard, some of the leaders that have met the head of state include Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti and Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji.

The president is said to have pitched camp at the Coast since Sunday, December 29, and only left the city once to attend a burial in Central Kenya before returning. He is expected to stay in Mombasa until Saturday, January 18.

Top of the agenda for the meetings is reported to be security threats and recent Al-Shabaab attacks in the region.

The publication further reported that Matiang'i and ICT CS Joe Mucheru arrived at the Coastal city on Sunday, January 12, and went straight to State House to see the commander-in-chief.

“The two CSs arrived early today and they are now at State House with the president," a source told the publication.

The paper further noted that Matiang'i bumped into Haji at the Moi International Airport and held a brief discussion. Haji was leaving the Coast.

Reports by People Daily, on the other hand, indicated that the president was planning a two-day all-encompassing meeting starting Tuesday, January 14, and top security heads were expected to be there.

Among those rumoured to have been summoned to the meeting include some county governors, all county commissioners, and regional police commanders.

“I am aware that the meeting will be held at the State House. It is a meeting of top police commanders, and a few selected governors. I am not aware of the criteria which were followed at reaching the selection,” the paper quoted a police commander.

The meeting, which the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai is also expected to attend, is reportedly scheduled for noon.
