CCTV footage has surfaced from B-Club, Nairobi on the morning of Friday, January 17 when a DJ was shot at the club.
The footage shows a man alleged to be Embakasi East MP Babu Owino in an orange shirt during the alleged altercation.
It also shows a man alleged to be the victim being dragged out of the club's elevators.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had announced that the lawmaker would be charged with attempted murder after DJ Evolve, who works at B-Club, was shot in the neck.
Babu issued a statement on Friday claiming that the events at B-Club were a culmination of threats on his life by political opponents.
"I was surrounded by a large group of aggressive individuals. In the melee, there was an exchange of gunfire," the statement read in part.
The MP alleged that the incident was an assassination attempt, citing a previous complaint he filed with police.
"A few weeks ago, I made a public statement regarding threats that I had been receiving against my life. At the turn of the year, I reported an attempted assassination at the Parliament Police Station under OB number OB21/17/11/2019 at 17:28hrs.
"I have been living under the weight of intimidation and threats by my political opponents," he stated.
Babu called for investigations into the incident as he promised to continue serving his constituents.
"I will continue to serve wananchi fearlessly. This will not deter me from supporting H.E Uhuru Kenyatta and H.E Raila Odinga in the journey to transform our country," he wrote.
Owino's lawyer Cliff Ombeta had told the press that Babu was provoked at the club before a fight ensued.
“He (Owino) was approached in a non-friendly manner by someone he considered a friend and physical fight ensued,” he alleged.
