Ruto Addresses Report of Being Locked Out of Uhuru Meeting

Deputy President William Ruto has hit out at a headline by a local daily alleging that he was snubbed by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, January 18, 2020.

The article, titled Uhuru Snubs Ruto, Again, alleged that the DP was in Mombasa but was uninvited to a meeting convened by the head of state in which he met 24 governors.

The publication further reported that DP Ruto flew from Wilson Airport and landed in Mombasa at 10 a.m, coincidentally the time when the meeting was expected to commence.

"Kenyans should ignore this choreographed, paid-for propaganda nonsense. I was in the office the whole day never in Mombasa," Ruto critiqued.

Citing a source who sought anonymity, the publication stated that President Kenyatta personally reached out to the governors, majorly for the pro-BBI campaign.

The deputy president has in the past been vocal in calling out news publications over headlines he often branded as 'fake news' or misleading.

However, the deputy president was in Taita Taveta earlier on Friday, where he met leaders from the region in a bid to lay the foundation for the initiation of programmes and policies that would transform the county before jetting back to Nairobi where he subsequently held another meeting with leaders from Nyanza in his office.

On January 12, Daily Nation reported that Ruto was forced to spend the night of January 11 at the English Point Marina after arriving at his official residence, only to find staff packing his personal belongings, purportedly following orders from above.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, DP Ruto's Director of Communications Emmanuel Talam refuted the claims, noting that the usually spends the night at English Point Marina whenever he was in Mombasa.

"I'm not aware of the story. Go and ask Nation where they got the report," Talam asserted.

Ruto-allied MPs expressed fears that state officials were behind the incident.
