Citizen TV's Kambua Opens Up on Dealing With Media Pressure

Citizen TV presenter and celebrated musician Kambua Manundu got candid on her struggles as one of the most recognisable media personalities in the country.

In an interview posted on social media by Vivo Active Wear on April 25, 2019, Kambua narrated that her journey as a Christian and as a famous media personality has not been smooth and easy.

"Being in the media as a woman of faith has its challenges because you are constantly under a lot of scrutiny, and also just the challenges and temptations that come with being there."

"How I deal with it is that I know all of us have a different calling and mine is in the media, and I know that there is grace for me to be in that place," she narrated.

She revealed that one of her biggest struggles in the industry had been dealing with trolls and people who had hateful things to say to her.

With time, however, she learned a proper means through which to deal with detractors in a way that it would not affect her or escalate the unfortunate situation.

"When you engage a bully, you are feeding their energy, but when you ignore them, their energy has nowhere to go, so I just let them say what they have to say and move on. I hardly ever engage trolls. It's always a losing battle"

She also narrated that she had learned to surround herself with people who are honest with her and help her stay grounded and mostly took comfort in family and close friends.

This, she stated, was because they were not much concerned about the awe surrounding her personality as a celebrity, and were thus willing to be honest with her and correct her if she was wrong.

"It is very important to have a strong support system. The people that you keep around you would either cause you to be very full of yourself or to be constantly aware of who you are supposed to be," Kambua stated.

Kambua also credited God for her survival in the industry, where she stated that it was through his grace that she had grown to be a better and stronger person.

Kambua is one of the most awarded musicians and media personalities in Kenya, boasting several Groove Award wins and nominations and a host of other recognitions for her contribution to the local gospel music industry.

She also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Ambrose University College in Calgary, Canada and a master's degree from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.
