Student Posing as Police Nabbed in DCI Campus Raid

A notorious 23-year-old suspected police impostor and con artist was caught, following an elaborate dragnet set up by officers from the DCI.

The venue of the dramatic Tuesday, January 29 arrest was Kabete National Polytechnic along Waiyaki Way in Nairobi, the main base of the suspect's operations.

Daniel Ochieng, the suspect, had allegedly visited the institution and introduced himself as an officer from Central Police Station, further adding that he was there to investigate reported crime within the college.

"In the course of his unlawful conduct, he arrested a student on allegations that he was peddling narcotic drugs. He further intimidated the victim with severe police action and in the process extorted Thirty thousand Kenya shillings from him," reads an excerpt of the statement shared by the DCI.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss George Kinoti.

The detectives further intimated that it was the victim who lost Ksh 30,000 who reported the matter to the police, thereby leading to a covert operation at the campus to flash out the fake officer.

Ochieng' had no clue he was the target of the operation as the detectives closed in on him while still in his fake police persona.

Once under cuffs, the DCI officers found him in possession of bhang, a toy pistol and Ksh 30,000

The detectives further revealed that the suspect was to be arraigned in court on January 29.
