Daily Nation Journalist Trapped in Floods

A man who responded to the calls for help at the Maasai Mara Game Reserve on Thursday, January 20, drowned in an effort to save one of the tourists.

One of the most beautiful destinations on the planet turned into a nightmare for locals and tourists alike following the night of heavy rains.

Daily Nation journalist, Paul Letiwa, is among the people currently trapped at Tipilikwini Camp in Narok West Sub-county awaiting rescue.

Workers and guests in at least 10 lodges and camps at the Maasai Mara woke up on Thursday, January 30, to find themselves marooned by crocodile-infested waters after Talek River broke its banks, following heavy downpour witnessed in the area.

The river ran through the various lodges and swept away various items in the luxury lodge, including beds, tents, computers, and documents.

Daily Nation confirmed the areas hit by the floods as Mara Leisure Camp, Base Camp, Mara Acacia, Azure Lodge, Olesaiki, River Side, Crocodile, and Mara Eden.
