Sonko Flexes Muscles in New Sweeping Changes

Embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has not been hindered by the pending graft charges against him after a letter from his office emerged, reporting a restructure of the county administration.

Dated Thursday, January 30, the governor effected the changes in accordance with the Constitution of Kenya and the County Government Act, 2012.

In the reshuffle, Newton Munene was retained at the helm of the ICT and E-government docket, as also was Lucia Mulwa- Education, Youth and Sports ministry.

Charles Kerich made a comeback to the Lands, Urban Planning and Housing department, Allan Igambi- Finance and Economic Planning, and Hitan Majevdia was appointed to the Ministry of Health,

Larry Wambua was switched to Environment Water Energy and Natural resources and was succeded by Veska Kangogo at the Devolution and Public Service docket.

Karen Nyamu (nominee) - Agriculture, George Fredrick Omogi Osewe (nominee)- Trade, Commerce, Cooperatives and Tourism, Leboo Morintat maintained his position as county secretary, Peter Kamau Mugo as the Chief of Staff and Lydia Kwamboka as the county attorney.

Pauline Kahiga who formerly served at the Finance and Lands dockets was shown the door along with Winfred Gathangu, who previously held the Agriculture docket.

Sonko's Cabinet reshuffle comes after Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji took to the courts to have Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkula's bail terms revoked for reshuffling his Cabinet.

On Monday, January 20, Capital FM reported a standoff that ensued at the Nairobi County Assembly after MCAs allied to Sonko stormed into Kahiga's office, then serving as finance minister on an acting capacity, directing that she approves the settlement of pending bills.

When she declined to approve the Ksh1 billion payment, she was ejected by the ward reps and Allan Igambi installed as her replacement.
