Zack Kinuthia Blasts VC Over Closed Ksh316M School

Ministry of Education Chief Administrative Secretary Zachary Kinuthia has expressed his displeasure at the current situation of a Technical Vocational Education and Training facility in Nairobi.

Kinuthia, who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke informed that the Eastleigh Technical Vocational Education and Training in Nairobi remains closed to the public despite its completion in 2017.

The Education CAS pronounced a stern warning to Dickson Nyariki, Vice-chancellor of the Murang'a University of Technology, of which the Eastleigh facility is an affiliate, to hand over the keys to the facility to new management.

"The facility was opened in 2017. Professor Nyariki is sitting pretty in Murang'a and he does not even care. The grass is overgrown, the facility just looks a mess. The contractor says he is not yet done," Kinuthia stated, further expressing his displeasure in the manner with which the VC had conducted himself.

The government is November 2019  appointed a new principal to the facility who has since been locked out despite being on the payroll.

The educational facility was put up by the government for a sum of Ksh 60 million and with the aid of the country's development partners, set up facilities worth in excess of Ksh 256 million. Kinuthia further informed that the government disbursed funds to facilitate the recruitment of student into the facility in January 2020.

"The facility has millions worth of facility in hospitality, cosmetology, welding. The government already issued 2 million for admissions, nothing has been done," Kinuthia stated.

"The college has no student yet because he has never handed over the keys to the new principal," he added.

In a video that was sent to Kenyans.co.ke, the incumbent Education CAS directed the Murang'a VC to surrender the keys of the institution and appear before the ministry of education on Monday, February 3.

"Professor I declare you a man of negligence, an incompetent person eating government money. If you don't appear before the ministry of education on Monday, consider yourself a man on the way out," an irate Kinuthia warned.

Kinuthia dismissed the VC's claims that he was yet to locate the newly appointed principal in order to hand over the facility terming it an act of incompetence.

Zack was appointed to the docket on Tuesday, January 14 by President Uhuru Kenyatta, making him the youngest person serving in that position, ostensibly meeting the demands of the populous generation for representation in the government.

It was expected of him to be the de facto deputy of the no-nonsense Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, and the way he has conducted matters related to the ministry recently, including the inspection of education facilities has appealed to many as impressive.
