Govt Renews War With Pastor Ng'ang'a

The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has moved in to reclaim the parcel of land in which controversial preacher James Ng'ang'a's Neno Evangelism Centre stands.

A report by the Daily Nation on Sunday, February 2, indicates that the corporation has sent a notice to inform him that it is seeking to reclaim the land on which his church sits claiming that it is the corporation's property.

The notice indicated that the land on which the church sits was encroaching on land initially reserved for railway use but had been allocated irregularly.

"Historical records in our possession indicate that the land bound by Haile Selassie Avenue, Nairobi Highway, and Bunyala Road in which various infrastructure is contained, was reserved for railway use.

"It has, however, been established that new grants on portions of the land were issued by the Commissioner of Lands around 1994 without the consent of the corporation," the notice read.

The corporation called for Ng'an'ga to hand in the documents relating to the property with immediate effect.

"You are hereby requested to surrender all documents relating to the irregular allocation of the above-referenced property to the corporation," the notice concluded.

This is not the first time the controversial preacher is caught up in scandals involving land.

In December 2019, an elderly woman named Susan Ngina Kanyali from Ngong', in Kajiado County accused Neno Evangelism Centre Bulbul branch in Ngong' of encroaching on her land.

Ngina lamented that an intervention from Ministry of Lands officers, that demanded Ng'ang'a and his church cease developing the property, was futile

She also lamented that the drainage system coming from the church area was directed to her house thus making her iron-sheet home susceptible to flooding in the case of heavy rains.

Ngang'a has been at crosshairs with the government in the recent past following a series of infractions including fraud and a hit-and-run incident that left a woman dead, an incident for which he was acquitted in 2018.
