Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, on Tuesday, February 4, opened up about the special relationship she enjoyed with the late President Daniel Moi.
Speaking at Parliament Buildings hours after his death, the lawmaker disclosed that she was privileged enough to meet the president in 1997 and even won a tender while at it.
She revealed that the president hired her to supply his team with campaign materials and later gifted her a phone for her to stay in touch with his team.
"Later on, I realised that we've lost the retired President Daniel Arap Moi. We know that he had been ailing for a long time but he was highly blessed, being able to live until 95. Most of you probably did not know him personally but I was blessed to have met him in 1997.
"I was one of the suppliers of his campaign materials. I got my first phone from the retired president. When he could not get me for the t-shirts (there were being coordinated from State House for his campaign), he then said, 'we can't get you so here is a phone'," narrated Passaris.
She further disclosed that while working together, the former president grew close to her family and was personally affected when she lost a child.
"I was pregnant and I lost my child and he took it so personally. He actually called me and told me 'I am so sorry that you lost your child'.
"He gave me an extra invite and my mother ended up going for the inauguration at State House," she continued.
After the tender, Passaris disclosed that there were issues with her pay and that somebody else was pocketing her money and when Moi got wind of it, he intervened to make sure she was paid in full.
The woman rep then urged Kenyans to respect the late president's family at this trying time.
Moi passed away on the morning of Tuesday, February 4, at The Nairobi Hospital.
