5 Nyeri MPs, 29 MCAs, Governor, Senator and Woman Representative Lose in Jubilee Nominations

The ongoing Jubilee Party nominations have continued to produce surprising results with seasoned politicians being ousted by newcomers.

Nyeri County, in particular, has produced the most unique results with almost all the incumbents suffering humiliating defeats.

Five out of the six sitting Members of Parliament and 29 MCAs have so far lost in the ongoing tallying with the Governor, Senator and Woman Representative headed in the same direction.

In Othaya, current MP Mary Wambui garnered 12,524 votes losing to former aspirant Gichuki Mugambi who had 20,228.

Mukurweini Kabando wa Kabando conceded an early defeat on Wednesday evening thanking his constituents for the nine years he served them. He lost to his competitor Anthony Kiai.

Elsewhere, renown activist Wambugu Ngunjiri garnered 17,517 votes beating incumbent Nyeri Town MP Esther Murugi who got 11,143.

Tetu lawmaker Ndung'u Gethenji is also headed home after being floored by lawyer Mwangi Gichuhi.

In Mathira, former Governor Nderitu Gachagua's brother, Rigathi Gachagua, got 29,215 beating the current legislator Peter Weru who came in a distant third.

Kieni MP Kanini Kega was the only survivor after clinching the coveted Jubilee ticket in the polls that were held on Wednesday.

At the same time, the County Assembly is set to have fresh blood after 29 MCAs also lost in the tightly contested elections.

The County will also have a new Senator since incumbent, Mutahi Kagwe is running for the gubernatorial seat with preliminary results placing him third in the race.

Governor Samuel Wamathai's re-election is also in a tight spot as results trickling in indicate that he is trailing businessman Wahome Gakuru.

Though officials numbers are yet to be announced, preliminary results indicate that Woman Representative Priscilla Nyokabi could also suffer the same fate after garnering 17,939 votes against her rival, Rahab Mukami's 29,814.
