5 Presidential Candidates Withdraw From 2017 Race to Endorse Ekuru Aukot

Five presidential candidates have reportedly withdrawn from the race ahead of the August 8 General Election.

The five independent and party candidates are said to have dropped their political ambitions in support of Thirdway Alliance Kenya aspirant Ekuru Aukot.

According to Aukot, the candidates who had already been given a go ahead by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) were supposed to endorse him on Tuesday.

However, the event which was to be held at the Serena Hotel was postponed to Wednesday.

“We have postponed our presser that was scheduled for today at Serena. We shall update the media later,” he stated.

It later emerged that one of the contenders who had promised to endorse Aukot, Pete Odeng requested the postponement to allow his Restore and Build Kenya Party to hold its National Delegates Conference.

This leaves the presidential race with 13 candidates including incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer Raila Odinga.

The remaining aspirants are set to battle it out during two debates which will be held on July 10 and 24 with their running mates participating in a similar forum on July 17.
