50 CORD MPs Decide to Rescue Ruto

50 Members of Parliament from the CORD Coalition have come to the rescue of Deputy President William Ruto and Joshua Sang, after they appended their signatures on a petition seeking to halt International Criminal Court (ICC) cases against the two.

The petition, which was sponsored by Pokot South MP David Pkosing, is directed at United Nations Security Council and the Assembly of State Parties (ASP), who are signatories of the Rome Statute which created the court. Pkosing revealed that ASP's Secretariat had confirmed receipt of the petition.

Surprisingly, ODM Chaiman John Mbadi and Opposition Chief Whip Jakoyo Midiwo are in the list of the signatories, as they seek to deliver Ruto from the jaws of the court, a move that could be interpreted as political.

Ruto could finally breathe slow after the ASP included the petition in the agenda for the upcoming 14th General Assembly in November.

The MPs want the cases suspended in order to allow for investigations into claims that some of the witnesses relied upon by the prosecution team, were coached to give false testimonies.

There has been several attempts to shield Ruto from the ICC case, with politicians going head to head with the Hague-based court judges for allegedly undermining the authority of the court.
