Politicians allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and those allied to Deputy President William Ruto on Monday night, February 24, held parallel meetings at Nairobi hotels.
Those allied to the DP held a meeting at Panafric Hotel, where they held discussions ahead of the BBI rally meant to take place in Meru on Saturday, February 29.
Led by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa, the Tanga Tanga allied MPs called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to cancel all BBI meetings.
The MPs stated that the rallies had turned out to be chaotic, particularly accusing Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina of incitement.
"The Narok meeting was nothing but pure incitement. The meeting profiled two communities," Gachagua stated.
"We are very concerned that the meeting was held by a rotary of brokers. We made a very conscious decision, that we will be here to focus on people-centred issues. We will not abrogate our mandate as elected leaders," Ichung'wa reiterated.
Additionally, the MPs called upon detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to arrest all those propagating hate during BBI rallies.
As this happened, the Kieleweke team held its meeting at Safari Park Hotel, where they discussed a number of issues a well.
Key issues discussed during the meeting included; proportionate representation and revenue share to the Mt.Kenya region.
The leaders agreed that the number of elected leaders sitting in legislative assemblies such as Parliament ought to be on the basis of the number of people that the person is representing as opposed to the current situation where other factors come into play, including the size of the constituencies.
Further, they discussed revenue share to the Mt Kenya region, where they stated that it should be synonymous to the people in the electoral unit.
The meeting was attended by a number of leaders including; senators, governors; Kirinyaga's Ann Waiguru, Murang'a's Mwangi wa Iria, Kiambu's James Nyoro, Nakuru's Lee Kinyanjui, Laikipia's Ndiritu Muriithi and CSs; ICT's Joe Mucheru and Transport's James Macharia.
