Popular Ohangla musician Maureen Achieng’ Otiu, popularly known as Lady Maureen is stranded at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) after being discharged.
A report from the Daily Nation on February 25, 2020, indicates that Lady Maureen, who has been in and out of hospitals for more than a year has no place to go to after being discharged.
Nancy Achieng, Lady Maureen's current caretaker told the publication that the reason for her new conundrum was that she had a falling out with her mother.
“The mother has barred me from taking the singer to her place due to unresolved family issues,” she told Daily Nation Tuesday.
She further told the publication that the singer was stable, but needed assistance to run basic activities including walking around.
Achieng further reported that she was looking for someone to care for the musician as well as a rental house while they were working on the differences between the mother and Maureen but was short of funds.
Lady Maureen’s health started deteriorating in 2018 after which was admitted to St Francis Community Hospital in Kasarani, Nairobi.
The doctors established that Maureen was suffering from hypertension and began treatment.
She was admitted at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in early 2020 after being transferred from a hospital in Migori and was discharged on February 20, 2020.
Lady Maureen is well known in the Ohangla circles for her catchy tunes, one of her most popular being an album she recorded in 2006.
According to The Standard in 2018, the album, which was titled Ji Gombo Neni (Many Would like to See You), was inspired by ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in 2007.
The latter CD reportedly sold about 500,000 copies within months of its release.
