A 32-year-old woman in Nakuru miscarried her baby four months into her pregnancy after she was allegedly brutalised by county enforcement officers.

According to a report by The Standard on Wednesday, February 26, Martha Kibiru stated that she had hired two men to clean out a filled septic tank when the county askaris stormed her residence.

"The two were preparing the exhauster to empty the septic tank when the county askaris arrived," Martha stated.

Kibiru narrated how the askaris attacked her and the workers before arresting them on the grounds of polluting the environment.

It was when they were being bundled into the askaris' van that Kibiru surmises the miscarriage happened.

"They arrested me, the two men and a cousin who was visiting. As they pushed me into the county van, a metal bar hit my stomach," stated Martha.

While at Central Police Station where the askaris took them, she began experiencing lower abdominal pain and started bleeding.

A medical report from Al Gadhir Medical Clinic on the same day indicated that she suffered an incomplete miscarriage.

Kibiru's husband, Moses Laparan, reported the matter to Nakuru Central Police Station.

According to Paul Githinji, the county chief officer in charge of public service management, the askaris involved in the incident were placed under investigation.

“The seven who were on duty when the alleged incident happened have been summoned. Investigations have commenced and stern action will be taken against anyone found culpable. The county enforcement officers have a duty to enforce the law and also follow it," stated Githinji.
