The body of a Kakamega County employee who went missing on Monday, February 24, 2020, has been discovered in River Kipkaren.
Chekalini Ward Administrator Joyce Mwofula Omukhaya reportedly disappeared from her home in mysterious circumstances.
The deceased leaves behind a three-month-old baby and had just resumed duty after finishing her maternity leave.
When her herdsboy reported on duty at dawn on Tuesday, February 25, he found the door wide open and the child crying inside the house. Her mother was nowhere to be found.
Lugari DCI boss Kennedy Limera who visited the scene on Friday, February 28 reported that investigations have been launched into the events surrounding her disappearance and eventual death.
Her body was moved to the Chevaywa Mortuary awaiting a postmortem.
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya condoled with the family and called for thorough investigations into her death.
"She joined the service with great excitement and expectations, inspired by a firm commitment to discipline and service delivery to fellow citizens at the grassroots level.
"Sadly, her dreams have been cut short. I urge relevant security agencies to conduct thorough investigations to establish the cause of her heartbreaking death," he ordered.
"On behalf of her colleagues in the County Government of Kakamega, I wish to send my heartfelt condolences to her family. I pray to the Almighty God to give them the strength to bear the loss and to rest her soul in eternal peace. Amen," Oparanya concluded.
