Asbel Kiprop, the former Olympic and three-times world 1,500m champion, grabbed global headlines back on April 20, 2019, when he was handed a four-year-ban an alleged doping violation by the IAAF’s Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

He is back in the headlines, after a video of the athlete dangerously pushing a Subaru to its limits along a busy highway, emerged.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the three-time world champion remained coy over the video and refused to confirm or deny if he was polishing up his driving skills after announcing that he was pursuing a professional career in motorsports back on February 24.

In the video, the former Olympian can be seen driving the Subaru at 180km/h. Kiprop was clearly operating well over the normal limits, with several matatus captured going in the opposite direction, suggesting that the renown runner was pushing his limits on the highway.

When he announced his surprise move to the world of motorsports, Kiprop also revealed that he would be working with veteran rallying personality Abdul Sidi who runs the Abdul Sidi rallying academy.

Sidi shared a text message sent by Kiprop, revealing the embattled athlete's desire to be the first accomplished track athlete to complete a successful switch to rallying.

Back on May 2019, Kiprop came clean on how a visit to Inspector General of Police (IG), Hillary Mutyambai, saved his life.

The world champion lauded IG Mutyambai for pulling him out of the worst days of his highly publicized life.

"He listened to me and advised me accordingly. I may not reveal more but I can tell you for sure that the meeting proved to be a turning point to me,” a thankful Kiprop remarked.
