The First Lady Margaret Kenyatta's Beyond Zero Half Marathon will see a number of Nairobi roads closed on Sunday, March 8.
The event, whose assembly point is outside Toyota Kenya along Uhuru Highway, is set to begin at 6.30 a.m.
The run will start at Uhuru Highway then connect to Haile Selassie Avenue- Bunyala Road-Dunga Road-Lusaka Road- Mombasa Road- Lang'ata Road and back to the starting point.
It is advisable for motorists to use alternative routes while going about their travels.
Those participating in this year's half marathon will select causes to run for, for example; zero child deaths, zero maternal deaths, zero FGM, a healthy lifestyle for the elderly, early screening of cancer, inclusion of persons who are differently-abled, better nutrition for children, zero child marriages and zero HIV infections.
Launched in January 2014, the Beyond Zero campaign aims at bringing prenatal and postnatal medical treatment to less privileged women and children in Kenya.
This comes after an announcement by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), who informed that a busy section of the dual carriageway of the Southern Bypass at Lang'ata National Housing Corporation (NHC) Flyover would be closed for two days.
In a statement released on March 5, 2020, KURA announced that on Saturday, March 7, and Sunday, March 8, the road section would be closed to facilitate repairs.
"The closure will be in order to facilitate the removal of formwork below the bridge deck and the installation of the PVC drainage downpipes on the ongoing Langata-Ngong Road Link," the notice reads.
KURA further informed that the closure would be effected in the hours starting 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the two days.
