ODM MP Dies After 1 Week in ICU

The Orange Democratic Movement is mourning the death of one of its members of the National Assembly who passed on after spending a week in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

ODM Party disclosed that Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori passed away on the morning of Monday, March 9 at 5:33 a.m.

Kinango MP Benjamin Tayari confirmed that Dori died at Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa.

Dori, who was elected as the constituency MP in 2013, was suffering from cancer.

He is survived by a widow and two children and is expected to be buried on the evening of Monday, March 9.

President Uhuru Kenyatta mourned the fallen lawmaker as an astute politician who served his people diligently.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of condolence to the family, friends and the people of Msambweni Constituency following the death of MP Suleiman Ramadhani Dori. In his message of comfort, the President described the fallen legislator as an astute politician who served his constituents with utmost commitment."

ODM party mourned him as a leader who served his people selflessly.

"We are saddened by the death of our member and MP for Msambweni Hon. Suleiman Dori early this morning. Cancer has once again robbed Kenya a dedicated leader who served his people selflessly.

"To the people of Msambweni, Kwale County and the Coast region, poleni sana (So sorry)," stated the party in a statement.

"My heartfelt condolences go out to the people of Msambweni and family of Ramadhani Suleiman Dori who has passed on this morning. May the Lord grant his family comfort at this difficult moment and may his soul rest in eternal peace," condoled former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

"Mheshimiwa Suleiman Dori was a progressive figure who tirelessly championed for the empowerment of the people of Msambweni; he was hardworking, focussed, fearless, with an inextinguishable love for everyone. 

"Ambitious, ingenious and committed to public service, Mheshimiwa Dori was indomitable, a moral enthusiast whose leadership advocated for equal justice. We will miss his firmness, wise counsel and vigour to improve the lives of the people the Coastal region," tributed Deputy President William Ruto.

Dori had made headlines in 2019 alongside Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa after the two risked expulsion after allegedly supporting Ruto despite securing seats on an ODM ticket.

He, however, survived the expulsion after allegedly writing a letter that was discussed by the National Governing Council.
