"This is in line with the government's directive about public events in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic as well as consultations with Public Works Ministry leadership, with the office of Major General (retired) Gordon Kihalangwa at his office," the statement reads.

Churchill clarified that despite the cancellation, the tickets still remained valid and that the event would be held at a later date to be confirmed as soon as the government allows for the resumption of public events.

In the statement, Churchill announced that while the live recording had been cancelled in the meantime, the airing of the show on TV would go on as scheduled.

"We would like to take this time to apologize to every one of you who was looking forward to the event as it was never our intention to disappoint all of you.

"We would like to assure you of the continuity of your favourite program on TV every Sunday as scheduled," the statement concluded.

The South C edition of the show had been hyped as a celebration of legendary rapper Issah Mmari Wangui, popularly known as E-sir, who was killed in a road accident on March 16, 2003.

On the fateful Sunday, E-Sir was travelling back to Nairobi from Nakuru where he had performed at Dimples Club the previous evening during the Miss Tourism Nakuru contest.
