A Kenyan who had cordoned herself off inside a hotel in Machakos over fears she might have contracted Coronavirus was arrested by police officers on the morning of Monday, March 16.

Speaking to a journalist based in the county, Kenyans.co.ke established that the unidentified woman had returned from Germany on Tuesday, March 3.

The woman, aged 54, was taken to the Machakos Police Station after residents around the hotel raised alarm.

Machakos Health CEC Ancent Kituku has confirmed that the suspect and her tour guide were tested by medical experts who were taken to the station with testing equipment in tow and results were negative.

Kituku disclosed that the medics found her temperature within the normal range (37.2 and 36.8) and that she was not coughing or sneezing, neither did she show signs of the disease.

This came at a time when the government was actively trying to ensure that everyone arriving in Kenya from countries hit by the virus quarantines themselves for at least 14 days before interacting freely with other people.

The state intensified their self-quarantine efforts after President Uhuru Kenyatta confirmed, on Friday, March 13, that a 27-year-old Kenyan who traveled to Nairobi from the US via London, UK had been confirmed as the first case on Friday, March 13.

Twenty-seven people were tested for the virus for coming in contact with the first victim, two of whom tested positive for the virus.

Data from World Health Organisation indicates that the virus has claimed more than 6,400 lives with over 127,000 others infected.

The Hill, a United States publication, reported that more than 70,000 people worldwide had recovered from the disease.
