As Kenya confirmed her fourth Coronavirus (Covid-19) case on Tuesday, March 17 and with thousands of deaths reported in other nations facing the pandemic, an American woman narrated to Citizen TV's Waihiga Mwaura, how she recovered from the disease.

So far, no cure or vaccine for Covid-19 has been established, but Elizabeth Schneider believes that if she survived after being infected, then many others can.

Schneider disclosed that she contracted Covid-19 on Saturday, February 22, as she partied the night away, in an event with over 35 people.

A few days later, she experienced symptoms related to the disease. Schneider stated that she woke up feeling exhausted, for which she assumed was a result of the previous night's activities.

She also started feeling ill, developed a fever and aches, with her body temperature rising up to 39 degrees Celsius.

“It is very interesting, I bought an over the counter drug, its is very similar to paracetamol like the one you have in your country,” Schneider discloses, adding that she decided to request for an off day to work from home, oblivious of the fact that she had contracted coronavirus.

The American, whose story was also aired on CNN and Fox, detailed that her friends, who were in the party with her on Saturday, February 22, shared their statuses on social media, intimating that they also fell ill.

On Saturday, March 7, Schneider decided to undergo testing in Seattle, Washington and was informed that she had tested positive. The tests were conducted by researchers who were based in the area, testing for flu-like symptoms even before the outbreak of Coronavirus was announced.

“I took a nasal swab from a kit offered by the researchers. At the time, I had largely recovered, when the results came, they told me I had tested positive for Coronavirus.

"I am feeling fine now. I do not have any of the symptoms I was experiencing. It's been 21 days since I fell sick. I adhered to the guidelines by medical practitioners, quarantining myself for over seven days after the onset of the symptoms or 72 hours after your fever breaks," she disclosed.

She further advised Kenyans to keep calm and adhere to measures stipulated by the Kenyan government, because in the US, her governor had ordered a shutdown and residents stayed indoors.

"Stay calm, do not hoard stuff, just be vigilant and stay home if you feel unwell to avoid spreading the virus, otherwise you do not have to worry. Majority of people end up recovering like myself," Schneider affirmed.
