Baringo County Deputy Speaker Ameja Zelemoi, was on March 17, impeached from his post over what was termed as gross misconduct.

The MCAs opted to oust Zelemoi from office after accusing him of several brazen acts of abuse of office, including using the county vehicles to transport his cabbages for sale in Nakuru Town.

The motion to impeach the deputy speaker who is also the Churo Amaya MCA was moved by Majority Leader Lawi Kipchumba and voted in by 36 of the 45 MCAs.

Kisanana Ward MCA Jacob Cheboiwo was then appointed as the new deputy speaker.

According to the lawmakers, Zelemoi has been using the county resources to fund the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) community mobilizers.

On his part, the ousted official lamented that he was not given time to respond to the allegations, which made him a victim of tribal bullying.

He added that he will be moving to the courts to seek justice, saying that the entire process was not fair.

"DP Ruto gave express instructions to Baringo Jubilee MCAs to impeach me so that they can stop reggae but they should know that it has made me stronger and free to confront this political war head-on," he stated following his impeachment.

However, the MCAs who voted for his removal were adamant that it was the right move following blatant disregard for the law by Zelemoi.

"We made the announcement last week that Baringo is firmly under Jubilee and this should serve as a notice to all those KANU leaders who have been shouting impeachments all over, that we will not entertain any further provocations," Mochongoi Ward MCA Kipruto Kimosop declared.

Jubilee MCAs, led by Kipruto Kimosop (Mochongoi) and Silas Tochim (Tenges), revealed that the move showed the prominence of the party in the county assembly.

Zelemoi is a vocal and loyal ally to Senator Gideon Moi and constantly front him as a presidential candidate in the 2022 General Election.
