A startling report shared by the police on Wednesday, March 18, exposed the latest trick being employed by thugs to waylay motorists.

Addressing the media, Busia Deputy Commissioner Joseph Onyango, was the first to raise alarm following several reports of motorists who have woken up at the end of their trip only to find their valuables missing.

Investigations have revealed that this group of thugs is positioning themselves along the Busia-Kisumu Highway, where they pose as good samaritans handing out free masks.

Playing on the psyche of the country that is currently hard-wired on evading the deadly coronavirus, motorists hurriedly accept these masks.

Unknown to them, the masks are laced with a chemical substance that induces sleep almost instantaneously.

The band of robbers then proceed to ransack vehicles as well as motorists of any form of valuables.

He was speaking at the Busia County Referral Hospital after holding a closed-door meeting with Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi, and the Health Committee on measures put in place to prevent the spread of the virus in the county.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Wednesday, March 18, announced the confirmation of three more Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in Kenya.

The announcement brought the total number of confirmed cases in the country to seven.

Among the three confirmed cases is a Burundian national who arrived in Kenya from Dubai on March 17.

The other two, a couple from Spain, arrived on March 4, landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) from Dubai as well.
