Two women have been quarantined at the Kerugoya Level Four Hospital in Kirinyaga County after they exhibited symptoms similar to those of Coronavirus.
Citizen Digital on Friday, March 20 reported that the two women were taken into the hospital's isolation facility on Thursday, March 19, 2020.
According to the county's Director of Health George Karoki, one of the women had been living in Rongai, though she is from Kirinyaga.
On Friday, March 13 Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced the country's first Coronavirus case, a 27-year-old woman who was later established to reside in Rongai.
Since the confirmation, there have been concerns with regard to members of the public living in the area. This saw the government launch an operation to fumigate Rongai.
Karoti informed that blood samples from the patients had been taken to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) laboratories for a Coronavirus test.
“We are waiting for results, but right now the two patients have been quarantined in the hospital isolation ward,” Karoti stated.
The publication has since reported that the county has hitherto donated 100 water tanks to select spots to facilitate proper handwashing by locals, all in a bid to curb further spread of the virus.
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru in line with the national directive on social distancing advised her constituents to observe the measure, further ordering not more than 10 persons in county morgues.
Over the past week, there have been numerous reports of members of the public being quarantined for showing Coronavirus-like symptoms, as the government steps up the fight against the deadly microbe.
As of the time of reporting, Kenya has recorded 7 confirmed cases, while the government tracks a reported 145 others who may have come in contact with the patients.
CS Kagwe during a presser on Thursday, March 19 informed that the government starting March 21, would conduct random screening of members of the public.
This measure is to help the government curb the disease before it is widespread, and the patients tended to early enough.
