Kilifi Deputy Governor, Gideon Saburi, has formed the subject of national condemnation following his decision to forfeit self-quarantine after returning from Germany potentially placing hundreds at the risk of contracting Covid-19.

The consequences of his recklessness came to the fore when an embittered officer attached to the Governor's Kilifi office released an emotional account of his experience owed to Saburis action.

"It's painful but there's no other way we can do it," began the officer.

"We have gone into quarantine. It's a bit heavy to carry, but.. its hard." he continues struggling to reign in his emotions.

According to the officer, he met the Deputy Governor on two separate occasions, the first being Monday, March 16.

"We shook hands with this guy on Monday at the office," he states in disbelief.

"Then we had another meeting with him somewhere else," he adds.

As per his own account, the officer had urged that Saburi be placed under quarantine as he posed a significant cause for concern.

"It's me who told the department to take this guy to quarantine and to test him because I felt that something was wrong," asserts the officer.

Saburi's business-as-usual attitude had allegedly been taken lightly by those concerned and would have continued in the same vein had the deputy not been placed under mandatory quarantine.

"If I hadn't asked that he [the deputy governor] be taken to the hospital no one would have remembered," provides the officer, adding, "It was like a joke but now it has become reality: our deputy governor is corona positive."

The officer expressed his gratitude for the directive issued by CS for Health Mutahi Kagwe that Saburi would face charges upon completion of his quarantine.

"Thank you Kagwe for saying that you'll take him to court. He doesn't care about the lives of the people he has infected with this virus," asserts the officer with visible anguish.

Saburi had allegedly been granted a month's leave by the Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi which he failed to utilise.

He then used his time to fraternise with a number of different people including Governor Kingi.

The embittered officer who was subsequently placed under quarantine blamed Saburi's actions for his woes.

"You've made us go on quarantine. It is not easy it is very expensive. You don't move outside and are forced to stay in that house for 14 days," lamented the officer.

The officer vowed that the deputy would be impeached for his recklessness and his decision to risk the lives of hundreds who were still unclear on their fate.
