Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, while addressing the media on Saturday, March 28, at Afya House, Nairobi, explained to Kenyans the difference between a forced and mandatory curfew, arguing that the latter was out of the situation the country was in.

Kagwe stated that by quarantining, one protected others from contracting Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease.

The CS further disclosed that his relatives were also under quarantine while warning Kenyans to heed the directives and approach the disease with severity.

"In Nairobi, there is not a single estate that has not been touched by the 28 cases in the city. It could very easily be your neighbour. As we start on the mass tests, we are going to get more and more.

Your best defence is to keep your distance away from the next person as much as possible. I can tell you at a personal level, I have a son and a niece under quarantine. The way we are looking at it is that if a person is in quarantine they are protecting themselves and also protecting you," Kagwe stated.

The CS went on to inform that mandatory quarantine should be observed as a safe haven, rather than a chance for one to raise complains.

"Mandatory quarantine is not forced quarantine… What we expect when you are in mandatory quarantine is cooperation with the medical staff, security staff. Understand you are not quarantined because you have committed an offence.

“You should be very happy to be in quarantine because it means you cannot pass on the disease if you have it," the CS stated.

He went on to reveal that he (Kagwe) had undergone testing and had received his results.

We have seen rogue people who have been spreading the disease. I would hate to see a responsible Kenyan spread the disease to their family. That's why you see even British PM Borris Johnson quarantining himself.

"I have been personally tested and God was kind. I was negative. I am trying to make you understand what this disease is all about. Even here in the ministry, my staff have undergone testing because we may have been exposed.

On Saturday, March 28, Kagwe confirmed that Kenya's Coronavirus cases had risen to 38
