A police officer in Machakos has found himself on the wrong side of the law over allegedly raping a suspect in custody.
According to a report by the Daily Nation on Saturday, April 4, the police officer raped her when she reported to the patrol base in Yatta.
According to the report, the woman was summoned to the base to answer to accusations of stealing a goat from one of her neighbours.
It was while she was waiting for the accuser when the officer allegedly pulled her into his house in the patrol base and sexually abused her.
The report further informs that the 45-year-old woman was rescued when another police officer found her in the suspect's house.
The Machakos County Commander Karanja Muiruri told the publication that he was aware of the incident that had taken place and that the police officer had been arrested and would be arraigned on Monday on rape charges.
The woman was taken to the Matuu level four hospital where health workers confirmed that indeed she had been sexually assaulted.
Cases of police sexually assaulting
In December 2019, the police found themselves on the wrong side of the law when they allegedly threw a 12-year-old girl into a police cell when she went to report a rape case at a police station in Nyabohanse town, Isebania.
The girl had allegedly been raped by her father, himself a police officer, prompting the other officers to throw the girl into the cells in a bid to protect their colleague.
The girl reportedly spent 6 days in a cell locked up alongside other adults and even after her release, the police tampered with the P3 form, police statements, and medical reports to destroy the case.
On December 30, 2019, another police officer in Lamu was charged at the Lamu Law courts with raping a woman. Constable Rodgers Ouma, attached to the Lamu Administration Police line in Lamu town, allegedly lured and raped the woman at his residence at the lines on December 8.
