Kenyan Preacher in London Under Investigation Over Covid-19 Scam

Climate Irungu Wiseman, a Kenyan preacher based in the UK is under investigation for selling oil that he claimed would protect congregants from contracting Covid-19.

A self-declared prophet at the Bishop Climate Ministries, the Kenyan promoted the sale of the miracle oil through the ministry's website.

As per an exclusive report by Southwark News authored on Tuesday, March 31, the miracle cure was retailing for approximately Ksh10,000 shillings.

Termed the 'Plague Protection Kits" the church claims that the product would guard buyers from contracting Coronavirus.

“It is by faith that you can be saved from the Coronavirus pandemic by covering yourself with the Divine Plague Protection Oil and wearing the Scarlet Yarn on your body," read a post on the ministry's website promoting the product.

The touted cure package was composed of oil and a red string. The oil was allegedly made from cedarwood, hyssop and "prayer".

Another advertisement post on the website alleged that God had instructed Irungu Wiseman to make the special oil.

The posts in the ministry's website urged potential clients to use the "protection kits" as it would guard them against coronavirus.

“As you use this oil, along with a special scarlet yarn, every Coronavirus and any other deadly thing will pass over you," details the post while adding in red bold letters, "Use the plague protection oil for protection from Coronavirus."

The protection kits are only part of the ministry's offerings to guard against the coronavirus pandemic.

Another post by the same ministry, undersigned by Irungu urged worshippers to part with amounts up to Ksh100, 000 for a 'seed' of divine protection for the entire family.

Victoria Mills, a Councillor with Southwark's Council who spoke to Southwark News stated that the case was under investigation,

“It is wrong for anyone to exploit people’s fears at this time of high anxiety and we encourage people to report any issues like this to London Trading Standards. This particular issue is already under investigation by our teams," stated the Councillor.

Irungu and other members of the ministry did not provide comment on the kits when sought out.
