It took traffic police hours to remove the trapped driver in the Mombasa-bound vehicle.

Both drivers were subsequently taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital with the Nairobi-bound driver escaping with only minor injuries.

According to one of the witnesses, Joshua Muli speaking to the Standard on Sunday, April 4, a loud bang alerted hi of the accident after which he rushed to the scene,

Muli, however, blamed the authorities for taking too much time extracting the injured from the trucks which led to the two deaths.

"It's hours and police are only making phone calls. I have not seen any intervention to save lives here," stated Muli.\

Muli provided that the scene of the accident was a blind spot following another accident on Thursday, April 2 in which one person died.
